NAU Sends Groups to California, Florida for Competition

FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. (April 15, 2026) – Northern Arizona track & field will split into three groups this week for one of its most competitive weekends of the outdoor season, sending distance athletes to the Bryan Clay Invitational in Azusa, California, sprinters and hurdlers to the Tom Jones Memorial in Gainesville, Florida, and throwers to Long Beach, California at the Pacific Coast Invitational as the Lumberjacks continue their push toward NCAA qualifying marks.

The distance group will compete Thursday through Saturday at Cougar Athletic Stadium, opening with the women's steeplechase Thursday evening at 7:40 p.m. (MST). Action continues Friday with the invitational 800 meters beginning at 4:15 p.m. (MST), followed by the 5,000 meters starting at 6:40 p.m. (MST) and running through the evening. Competition concludes Saturday with the 1500 meters, beginning at 7:00 p.m. (MST). The Bryan Clay Invitational annually stands as one of the premier distance meets in the country, consistently producing NCAA qualifying marks and top-16 performances, making it a key opportunity for NAU as the postseason approaches.

NAU's sprints and hurdles group will compete at Percy Beard Track at James G. Pressly Stadium, hosted by the University of Florida, with competition taking place Friday and Saturday. Friday's schedule begins at 9:00 a.m. (MST), with running events starting at 10:00 a.m. (MST) and invitational sections in the afternoon, including the 200 meters and 400-meter hurdles at 2:00 p.m. (MST). Saturday's competition opens at 6:30 a.m. (MST) and runs throughout the day, featuring the 100 meters, 400 meters, 800 meters, hurdles and relay events, including the 4x100m and 4x400m relays to close the meet. The Tom Jones Memorial annually draws one of the deepest sprint fields in the country, providing NAU a strong test against elite collegiate and professional competition midway through the outdoor season.

The throws group will compete in Long Beach, California, at the Pacific Coast Invitational at Jack Rose Track, with competition spanning Thursday through Saturday. Action begins Thursday morning at 8:00 a.m. (MST) with the hammer throw, followed by javelin, discus and shot put throughout the day. Competition continues Friday starting at 9:00 a.m. (MST) with additional hammer and javelin sections, including invitational flights in the afternoon, before concluding Saturday with shot put and discus beginning at 10:00 a.m. (MST). The meet provides a high-volume competitive opportunity for NAU's throws group against strong West Coast competition as they continue building consistency and improving marks during the outdoor season.
