FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. (March 10, 2021) –
Upon starting the season with 4-0 losing streak, the Northern Arizona men's tennis program is hoping for its first win of 2021 tomorrow afternoon at 3 p.m. against Virginia Commonwealth University. The match will be played at Arizona State as a neutral site.

The Lumberjacks faced a 4-3 heartbreaking home game loss this past Monday, March 8, against opponent Utah State. The Aggies snapped a 32-match home winning streak dating back to March 1, 2016 when the Lumberjacks fell to Loyola Marymount, 5-2.

Northern Arizona clinched the doubles point after wins from pairings Facundo Tumosa/Alex Groves (6-3) and Chris Steele/Dominik Buzonics (6-3).

Freshman Marcus Sulen improved NAU's 1-0 score to 2-0, besting his singles opponent Arvid Hjalte 6-3 and 6-1. USU would respond by winning three singles matches in a row over Steele (6-3, 6-1) Buzonics (7-5, 6-4), and Groves (6-0, 4-6, 6-1).

Tumosa would equalize the playing grounds again, winning his singles match in a three-set victory (7-5, 3-6, 6-2) over Utah State's Felipe Acosta. Unfortunately, USU would defeat senior Eban Straker-Meads in a three-set battle of 3-6, 6-3, 6-3 to clinch the win over the Lumberjacks.

Looking forward to tomorrow's match, Virginia Commonwealth enters into Thursday with a 6-0 record. The Rams have swept all but one opponent on their courts, recording five 7-0 wins over Longwood University in a doubleheader, James Madison, George Mason and Richmond. The only men's tennis program to not be shutout by VCU was Old Dominion on Feb. 26, where the Big Blue tallied two singles courts wins.

The match will not have live stats or a livestream.
