Aguilar Earns AFCA All-American Second Team Honor

FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. (May 14, 2021) – Marking his third postseason honor, and second All-American selection, Northern Arizona kicker Luis Aguilar was named to the 2021 Spring AFCA Football Championship Subdivision (FCS) Coaches' All-America Second Team Friday morning.

It is Aguilar's first career honor from the AFCA and his ninth postseason All-American honor during his Lumberjack tenure. On Wednesday, Aguilar was named to the Associated Press All-American team and in April, the Big Sky Conference placed him on the first team.

Even in a shortened season, Aguilar continued to provide the Lumberjacks with a consistent scoring option. Extending his consecutive extra points made streak to 64 with another eight this season, Aguilar is now 13 back of Micky Penaflor's program record of 77 set between 1987 and 1989.

Aguilar also connected on 9-of-10 field goals this season with a long of 48 yards against the Eastern Washington Eagles.

The senior's career extra point percentage and field goal percentage both currently top NAU's record book. Hitting 83-of-84 extra points, Aguilar's career extra point percentage currently sits at 98.8 percent. Additionally, Aguilar's 81.4 percent on field goals, hitting 35-of-43, also ranks first in program history as well as fifth among active FCS kickers.

Aguilar will also enter the Fall 2021 season within reach of Robbie Dehaze's record of 302 career kicking points scored from 2005 to 2008. Finishing the spring at 188 career points, Aguilar trails Dehaze's mark by 114 and scored a program-record 118 during the 2019 season when he ranked second in the FCS among kickers and 10th among all players.

Seven players from the Big Sky Conference were among the two teams announced by the AFCA, with Eastern Washington quarterback Eric Barriere and offensive lineman Tristen Taylor joined on the first team by Weber State offensive lineman Ty Whitworth and UC Davis punter Daniel Whelan.

Named to the second team along with Aguilar were Eastern Washington running back Talolo Limu-Jones and Weber State defensive back Preston Smith.
