FARMINGTON, Utah (July 14, 2021) – To conclude the announcements of the 2020-21 Big Sky All-Academic awardees, Northern Arizona men's and women's outdoor track & field, men's and women's tennis and golf were honored with a combined 75 Spring All-Academic awards in a release by the league office on Wednesday.
Between the
fall,
winter and spring seasons, the Lumberjacks had a total of 262 Big Sky All-Academic honorees for the 2020-21 academic year.
Due to the impact of COVID-19 on the 2020-21 academic year, the participation requirement for Big Sky All-Academic honors was waived as voted on by the league's Athletic Directors. To be eligible for Big Sky All-Academic honors, a student-athlete must have met and/or exceeded the following minimum requirements: 1) Be on an active roster for their institution; 2) Achieved a 3.2 cumulative grade point average (on a 4.0 scale) at the conclusion of the most recently completed term; 3) Completed at least one academic term at his/her current Big Sky institution.
NAU Athletics dominated the spring season with men's and women's outdoor track & field and men's and women's tennis each capturing their respective Big Sky championships. Meanwhile, the golf team placed second in the conference marking the program's best finish in six years.
Following a historic outdoor championship meet in which they became the third team in league history to eclipse 200 points, the NAU women's track & field program had 37 All-Academic honorees. The men's program garnered 23 awards with all six of the women's tennis team's starters picking up the honor. NAU golf had five selections and the men's tennis team had four to complete the list.
