FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. (January 13, 2022) - The Northern Arizona track & field team will host their first indoor meet in two years, the Axe 'Em Open, on Friday; field events will begin at 2 P.M. (MT) and races will start at 4 P.M. with the women's 60-meter hurdles.
Athletes from AAG Sports Academy, Arizona Elite, Arizona State, CSU Bakersfield, Elite Sports Academy, Grand Canyon, Malone Athletics, Nevada Track Club, Ottawa (AZ), Phoenix College, Phoenix Track Club, Risen Performance, Team Showtyme, UNLV, Valley Vipers, and World Class Sports Club are entered to compete at the meet.
Defending Big Sky Men's Weight Throw Champion, redshirt senior Will Beaudry will throw the weight, for the first time since last season when he finished 18th in the nation with a mark of 21.37. Jacob Kaufman (graduate student), Jack Murphy (senior), , Jake Arnold (redshirt senior), Blake Baloun (redshirt sophomore), Parker Bays (redshirt junior), Garret Bernt (freshman), and Cole White (redshirt sophomore) will also be in the mix.
Arnold, Baloun, Bays, and Bernt are set to throw shot put, as well as redshirt sophomore Rudy Tapia, and redshirt sophomore Jake Tucker.
On the women's side, senior Jennifer Slater, redshirt sophomore Kimberly Buchanan, sophomore McKenna Chaney, and freshman Tania Duncan will compete in the weight throw; Buchanan will also compete alongside redshirt sophomore Carly Watts in the women's shot put.
Throughout the day, the men's and women's long jump and triple jump will be held at the pit, with senior Jenna Figueroa, sophomores Mitchell Effing, Royal Miller IV, Lily Margolis, Courtney Weisenberger, and Kerr, and freshmen Sirr Butler, Bennet, and Lipsey competing for the Lumberjacks.
Jack Normand (sophomore) will participate in the men's high jump and long jump as well.
Meanwhile, on the track, seniors Alex Alton and Erick Thompson, junior David Dunlap, sophomore Karsen Burke, sophomore Matthew Roma, freshmen Trenton Givens, Tyson Givens, Ian Lipsey, Zach Schroeder, Kyle Smith, and Zachary Sutton are scheduled to run the men's 150-meter, while senior Miracle Onyemaobi, sophomores Kenya Coburn, Madeline Wilson, Kenashalee Kerr, and Marissa Milos, freshmen Alyssa Colbert, Synfanie Crudder, LiNay Perry, and Jyntry Rucker will line up for the women's 150-meter.
Thompson, Dunlap, Roma, Lipsey, Schroeder, Smith, Sutton and Joshua Bennet (freshman) are slated to sprint the men's 60-meter dash, as Coburn, Colbert, Crudder, and Perry will run the women's 60-meter.
Wilson, Milos, and Rucker are set to run the women's 60-meter hurdles while Burke and the Givens twins are scheduled to compete in the men's 60-meter hurdles.
Senior Alex Alton and junior Melanie Loff will respectively run in the men's and women's 300-meter race; Loff is also set to compete in the women's 600-meter, as Human will compete for the Lumberjack men.
As for the distance events, senior Cassi Land, sophomore Riley Human, and freshmen Anna Fenske, Randy Espinoza, and Aiden Barnhill will run the men's and women's 3000-meter and mile.
NAU will also enter two men's teams and two women's teams in the 4x300-meter relay.
