BOULDER CREEK, Nev. (October 23, 2022) – The Northern Arizona University golf team concluded the first round of competition at The Clash at Boulder Creek tied for fifth place after shooting 7-over par. NAU shot for a total of 295 strokes, putting them 11 total strokes behind the lead team.
Ellena Slater is once again leading the team, as she is currently tied for ninth place and finished her first round even-par, her third time doing so this season. Slater finished the back nine at 1-under par and saw two birdies in the round today.
Aleksandra Chekalina saw another consistent performance, finishing the day tied for 21
st with teammate
Lorel Hayward. Both Chekalina and Hayward finished with 74 strokes to be 2-over par. Chekalina was strong on the back nine, shooting one birdie and finishing even-par. Hayward recorded three birdies in the first round, with two coming on the front nine. She had a strong outing on the front nine holes, finishing even-par.
Ekaterina Malakhova finished her day tied for 33
rd, shooting 3-over par. Malakhova also recorded three bridies on the day, tying with Hayward to lead the team. Two of her birdies came on the back nine, which she finished even-par.
Lizzie Neale rounds out the lineup for the Lumberjacks, tying for 72
nd place after the first round. She shot 7-over par for a total of 79 strokes and recorded one birdie on the day.
In total the Jacks recorded 11 birdies, with six coming on the back nine. NAU is tied for sixth in total number of birdies on the day. Four of five NAU golfers birdied hole 16, a par 5 that didn't give the field much competition today. NAU did best on par-5s today, finishing 1-under par on the holes with five birdies. The Lumberjacks are tied for fifth in total number of par in the first round, having a total of 56.
Competing but not contributing to the team score are Nina Lukyaneko and
Ashley Croft. Lukanenko finished her day 10-over par and recorded one birdie to tie for 86
th. Croft finished tied for 72
nd after shooting 7-over par.
