NAU Diving Set to Host Lumberjack Diving Invite

FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. (November 17, 2022) - The Northern Arizona Diving team is gearing up to host the first Lumberjack Diving Invite of the season this weekend. The invite will take place Friday through Sunday at the Wall Aquatic Center in Flagstaff, and is free to the public to attend.

The Jacks will be hosting New Mexico State, Fresno State, Idaho, and Colorado Mesa through the three day invite, competing in 1-meter, 3-meter, and platform dives. This year the invite will introduce a new event in the relay diving event on Sunday where teams will compete in all three events in pairs for scores.

The Lumberjacks championed both the 1m and 3m events last year as Junior Maegan Jensen placed first on the 3m with a score of 296.85 and Junior Victoria Knapp placed first on the 1m with a score of 303.30.

The Lumberjacks have found early success on the boards this season, picking up two Western Athletic Conference diver of the week awards after the first two weeks of competition. Margaret Wesche and Grace Wesche went back-to-back in the weekly awards in just their first season with the Jacks.

Margaret's WAC accolades came in after the Lumberjacks hosted Idaho, Ottawa, and Arizona Christian for the first competition of the year. The true freshman placed second on the 3-meter boards with a score of 297.83, and third on the 1-meter boards with a score of 272.25.

Grace's WAC honors were earned after back-to-back dual meets in New Mexico taking on NMSU and UNM. Grace found success at New Mexico State, earning both first place scores on the 1m and 3m with 274.50, and 265.88, respectively. The freshman also picked up 2nd and 3rd place finishes at New Mexico to further her campaign for diver of the week.

The Lumberjacks will kick off the diving invite tomorrow morning 10:30 a.m. for prelims, with consolations beginning at 12:45 p.m. and finals starting at 1:30 p.m. The schedule will stay the same for Saturday's events. Sunday the invite will begin with platform dives at 10 a.m. and the relay event will kick off at 12:15 p.m.
