FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. (December 7, 2022) – Three Lumberjacks earned All-Big Sky Conference honors from The Bluebloods on Tuesday, as
Cosmas Kwete landed on the first team with
Eloi Kwete and
Morgan Vest named to the second team.
All three players started all 11 games for the Lumberjacks, the only three on Northern Arizona's defense to do so during the 2022 season.
Recording 60 tackles, 13.0 tackles for loss, 5.0 sacks and eight quarterback hurries,
Cosmas Kwete easily produced one of the top seasons by a defensive lineman in recent history. The sack total tied for seventh in the Big Sky Conference while his 1.2 tackles for loss per game finished second in the conference and 45th in the nation. Now at 17.5 tackles for loss, 6.5 sacks and 23 quarterback hurries during his Lumberjack career,
Cosmas Kwete is just outside the Top 10 in the first two categories while ranking among the top of the third.
Cosmas Kwete's 13.0 tackles for loss was the most for a Lumberjack since James Walton's 13.0 during the 2017 season.
Vest concluded his Lumberjack career with 260 tackles to rank first in the program since 2000. Finishing second in the Big Sky this season with 102 tackles, Vest's total ranks sixth in a single season since 1995, just behind Vest's 104 from 2021. The safety is also the only Lumberjack since 1995 to finish his career with at least two seasons with 100 or more tackles. Vest also finished fifth in the Big Sky with 11 passes defended this fall, concluding his Lumberjack career with 21 pass breakups and six interceptions.
Cosmas Kwete's twin brother
Eloi Kwete finished third in the Big Sky with 7.0 sacks and sixth with 11.0 tackles for loss. Eloi's 16.0 career sacks now ranks him sixth in the program since 2000 while the 26.5 career tackles for loss is now seventh at Northern Arizona since 2000. The 7.0 sacks is the most at Northern Arizona since Siupeli Anau's 8.5 sacks during the 2016 season.
While Vest graduates from the team, both Cosmas and
Eloi Kwete will return to Northern Arizona's defensive line in 2023.
