Box Score 2 TUCSON, Ariz. (February 12 , 2022) - In Saturday's double-header matchup, Northern Arizona Men's Tennis fell to the ITA nationally ranked #17 Arizona Wildcats, 7-0 in both matches.
The 'Jacks faced some tough matchups, while Eban Straker-Meads and Facundo Tumosa lost their first match of the day on court one, against Jonas Ziverts and Jett Middleton, 3-6. On court two, Alex Groves and Dominik Buzonics fell to Herman Joeyeraal and Gustaf Strom, 1-6, and Maciej Ziomber and Daniel Dillon fell on court three while facing Jared Horwood and Nick Lagaev, 2-6.
Singles play showed some more promise from the Lumberjack team, as they challenged the Wildcats through a few rallies. Straker-Meads and Tumosa fell on courts one and two with the same score of 2-6, 2-6. Buzonics fell on court three, 5-7, 2-6. Ziomber took the loss on court four 1-6, 1-6, Groves was knocked down on court five 2-6, 1-6, and Dani Torres lost on court six 2-6, 0-6.
Starting the second session of the day, all three doubles pairings fell to the Wildcats. Beginning singles competition, Straker-Meads was facing Strom on court one, losing the match 3-6, 4-6. Tumosa faced Hoeyeraal on court two, losing 2-6, 2-6. Buzonics put up a tough match on court three to the ITA's nationally ranked #42 singles player Colton Smith, winning the first set 6-4. Buzonics dropped the next two 0-6, 3-6.
Ziomber took on Carlos Hassey on court four, dropping 3-6, 2-6. Joachim Schaefer took on Lagaev on court five, falling 1-6, 3-6. Finishing up the full day of matches, Torres took on Horwood on court six, falling 3-6, 4-6 in Tucson.
The Lumberjacks will be back in action next week at home on Friday, where they will take on UC San Diego at 6 p.m. MST.
