FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. (February 12, 2022) - Northern Arizona continues to steadily move the needle as championship season rapidly approaches.
On the second day of the Don Kirby Elite Invitational, the Lumberjacks posted nine Big Sky scoring performances, and six new personal records.Â
The mens and women's 4x400-meter relay teams left it all out on the track today, respectively running 3:15.95 and 3:54.22, and earning first and fourth on the conference leaderboard this season.Â
Alyssa Colbert also had a powerful showing on the oval, sprinting the women's 60 meter dash in 7.48, to slot herself just behind her current first place position on the Big Sky indoor list.Â
Meanwhile, in the field, the jump squad had a phenomenal day, with five personal best long jump performances that currently land them in scoring contention.Â
Mitchell Effing leaped 15.32 meters to grab second in the Big Sky, while Jenna Figueroa (12:05m), Kenashalee Kerr (11.71m), Courtney Weisenberger (11.66m), and Lily Margolis (11.52m) sequentially slid into second, fifth, sixth, and seventh.Â
The NAU men and women also found success in the shot put, as Jake Arnold, who currently sits second in the conference, proved his strength with a throw of 17.18m to take third; Rudy Tapia threw a personal best of 15.89m as well.Â
On the women's side, Carly Watts continued her hot streak, throwing for 14.79m, which would be good enough for fourth in the Big Sky if she did not already own first place.Â
In Seattle, the distance team ran wild, finishing with six personal records, and four potential conference scoring marks.
Melanie Loff bested her current women's 800m first place Big Sky time, with 2:07.50, while the milers went to work as well.
Bryn Morley and Cassi Land respectively ran 4:44.31 and 4:54.17 in the women's mile, as Theo Quax (3:59.13), George Kusche (4:00.66), Caleb Easton (4:02.83), Randy Espinoza (4:08.47), and Aiden Barnhill (4:09.15) competed in the men's mile; Morley, Quax and Kushe now respectively rank fourth, sixth and seventh on the conference leaderboards.
The Lumberjacks will be back in action when they host the NAU Tune Up, their final home meet, on Feb. 18.Â
