FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. (February 18, 2022) - Northern Arizona certainly seems to be functioning like a well oiled machine headed in the Big Sky Championships next week, as the Lumberjacks posted 17 conference scoring marks at the NAU Tune Up on Friday night.
The sprinters and hurdlers brought in a total of nine Big Sky top ranking marks between the 60-meter hurdles, the 60-meter dash, and the 200-meter.
In the women's 60-meter hurdles, Madeline Wilson ran a personal best time of 8.75 to advance to event finals where she set another personal record of 8.64 to grab third in the conference; Jyntry Rucker and Marissa Milos also sequentially ran 8.76 and 883 to tie for fifth and seventh in the Big Sky this season.
Trenton Givens gave it his all, with a personal best of 8.01 in the men's 60-meter hurdles to climb the Big Sky leaderboard and become fourth, while Wil Peralta and Karsen Burke respectively ran 8.20 and 8.29 which both qualify as eighth depending on how standings are arranged.
Meanwhile, Alyssa Colbert continued to dominate the conference, running 7.36 in the women's 60-meter dash, and Ian Lipsey pushed himself into contention for eighth with a personal best time of 6.88.
Synfanie Crudder also lept from 11th to fifth in the Big Sky with a personal record time of 24.85 in the women's 200-meter dash.
It was quite a day in the throws ring as well, housing eight top Big Sky marks.
Kimberly Buchanan matched her personal best of 17.49 meters to remain sixth in the conference, while Jennifer Slater, who currently ranks fifth, threw 16.76m, and McKenna Chaney jumped from 19th in the Big Sky to seventh with a personal record of 16.40m.
The men also achieved three scoring marks with Jack Murphy throwing 18.93m, Jacob Kaufman tossing 19.27, and Will Beaudry winning the event with 19.70m to respectively earn sixth and fourth if their current conference marks were to be shifted.
Meanwhile, in the men's shot put Jake Arnold threw a season best of 17.19m to cement second in the conference this season while Carly Watts, who currently sits atop the women's leaderboard, threw 15.38m, which would land in second place if standings were rearranged.
The Lumberjacks will now put the final touches on their Big Sky Championship lineup and prepare to compete in Bozeman, Mont. on Feb. 24-26.
