FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. (February 24, 2022) - Northern Arizona Men's Tennis will host three home matches this weekend, beginning with a double-header Friday and a Saturday afternoon matchup.
Friday, the 'Jacks will take on Mesa Community College at 10 a.m. MST and New Mexico State University at 4 p.m. MST, and will host Grand Canyon University at 4 p.m. MST on Saturday.
The Lumberjacks are heading into their first matches since being named to the ITA's nationally ranked top 75 list on Wednesday. The national ranking of 68th is the team's first honor in program history. NAU sits at a 7-4 record on the season, after a 7-0 win at home last weekend to UC San Diego and a tough 5-2 loss at the University of New Mexico to the Lobos.
Mesa Community College has a 1-2 record, currently on a two match loss streak, with losses coming to Ottawa University Arizona, and Arizona Christian University. NAU has not hosted MCC since April of 2019, where they earned a 7-0 win.
NAU last saw the Aggies of New Mexico State in action during their fall campaign, where NMSU hosted the Aggie Invitational. The Lumberjacks brought two flight wins back to Flagstaff, including Alex Groves' won flight two, facing Aggie Gijs Akkermans. NMSU holds a season record of 3-8, coming off of a 4-1 loss to Abilene Christian University.
The last time the 'Jacks and the Lopes were in action was April of 2021, when GCU hosted NAU. Grand Canyon earned the 5-2 win, falling in doubles on two courts with an unfitted match, and on court four where Maciej Ziomber brought in a win to Jonathan Da Silva (1-6, 6-2, 6-4). The Lopes current record sits at 1-9, and they received their first win of the season to UC San Diego last Sunday, earning the 6-1 victory against the Tritons.
