FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. (March 13, 2022) - Looking to jump back into the win column, Northern Arizona Men's Tennis will head back on the road for a pair of matches in California.
The 'Jacks will take on the University of the Pacific Tigers on Tuesday at 1:00 p.m. MST. On Thursday, NAU will face the Sacramento State Hornets for the team's second Big Sky Conference matchup of the season, the match is set to start at 12:00 p.m. MST.
The Lumberjacks currently hold a record of 12-5, coming off just their fifth loss of the season to UNLV, dropping the close match in singles play, 4-2. Looking to bounce back from the loss, the 'Jacks are led by doubles pairing Eban Straker-Meads and Facundo Tumosa who hold a record together at the No. 1 position of 8-4.
The 'Jacks continue to showcase their roster depth as they build on the season, with singles players Dominik Buzonics, Maciej Ziomber, and Alex Groves stepping up for the team. Buzonics holds a 11-5 record, primarily playing at the No. 3 position. Ziomber is sitting with a 12-3 record, primarily playing at the No. 4 position. Groves currently holds a five match win streak at the No. 5 position with a record of 12-3.
Leading the Lumberjacks with a six match win streak in singles play, is Straker-Meads who is 6-2 through the 'Jacks last ten matches with a season singles record of 8-5. Straker-Meads is primarily playing at the No. 2 position for the team.
The Lumberjacks and the Tigers have not seen each other in dual match action since 2013, where the Tigers took a 6-1 win at home. Overall this season, Pacific holds a 3-8 record, with wins coming to UC Davis, Sacramento State, and Idaho State.
The Tigers are led by Sophomore Ran Amar who holds a six match win streak in singles play, primarily playing at the No. 3 position. Amar holds an impressive singles record of 7-2. As the team struggles in doubles play, they are led by Amar and Liam Puttergill who are just 2-1 at the No. 3 position.
The 'Jacks are on a three match win streak against the Hornets, with the team's last win coming in March 2021 as NAU earned the 4-3 victory. The Hornets were picked to finish second in the conference, behind the Lumberjacks who were voted the favorites.
Sacramento State currently holds a record of 9-5, coming off of a 4-2 loss to the University of Hawaii. The Hornets are led in singles play by Rudolfs Aksenoks who currently holds a 9-1 record, primarily playing at the No. 6 position for the team. Mark Keki is 9-4 in singles play in the No. 1 slot for the Hornets.
The Hornets have given up just one doubles point through the entire season, highlighting Keki and Mate Voros' 11-1 record at the No. 1 position for the team.
