FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. (March 7, 2022) - After an extended period of home matches, the NAU Men's Tennis team is heading on the road this week to take on Illinois State and UNLV.
With a four match win streak under their belts, the Lumberjacks are prepared to take on the Illinois State Redbirds in a neutral match on Tuesday, March 7, at 6:30 p.m. MST. The team will then take on the UNLV Rebels on Wednesday, March 9 at 11:00 a.m. MST.
The No. 65 Lumberjacks hold a 11-4 record on the season, coming off of their first Big Sky Conference win to Eastern Washington, earning the 7-0 victory at home in Flagstaff. Doubles duo Dominik Buzonics and Alex Groves are 10-5 in overall doubles play through the season, highlighting a 4-0 record at the No. 1 position and 6-5 at the No. 2 position.
As the 'Jacks move deeper into season, Groves and Maciej Ziomber have stood out with their singles records for the team. Groves moved to 11-3 after a win at the No. 5 position facing EWU this past weekend, and Ziomber now holds a 11-2 singles record after taking victory at the No. 4 position.
NAU and Illinois State will be meeting for the first time on Tuesday. The Redbirds hold a 4-10 record through the season, coming off of a 0-4 loss to Indiana. The team's success has shown through Nam Pham at the No. 1 position who has wins to Ball State as well Eastern Illinois.
The last time the 'Jacks and Rebels met on the courts was February of 2020, where NAU fell 4-0. UNLV holds a 4-7 Spring record, while currently on a seven match loss streak after taking the first four matches of the season. The Rebels will be starting an extended home stretch of eight matches on Wednesday when they host NAU.
