BOISE, Idaho (March 8, 2022) – Following one of the most prolific scoring seasons by a Lumberjack ever, sophomore
Jalen Cone was honored in a vote by the league's head coaches with a spot on the All-Big Sky Third Team. It is Cone's first all-career all-conference accolade.
Cone, in his first season at NAU after two seasons at Virginia Tech, averaged a team-leading 18.8 points per game in the regular season and ranked second on the team with 113 assists and 22 steals. He also led the team with 91 threes and 114 free throws made.
Cone has been one of the league's top scorers all season and heads into the conference tournament beginning on Wednesday ranked second in the Big Sky in scoring average. In conference play, Cone averaged 18.9 points per game, which placed him fourth.
The Walkertown, N.C. native currently sits at 583 points scored, the second-highest single-season total in program history. Cone's 91 three-pointers are sixth-most, and he is just five threes away from moving all the way into third for a season.
Nationally, Cone ranks in the top 100 in numerous offensive categories. At the beginning of the week, Cone ranked 24th in three-pointers made, 27th in points scored and 34th in three-pointers per game (2.94). He is also 50th in scoring average and 76th in free throw percentage (.838) among a host of other categories.
Last Saturday at Idaho, Cone became the first Lumberjack since Ryan McDade to net three 30-point games in a season with a 35-point performance. With 14 20-point games, Cone is just the fourth different Lumberjack with at least 14 such games in the last 26 seasons. Cone is one of four players in the conference with three 30-point games and his 14 20-point games are second-most in the league.
The 'Jacks open the conference tournament on Wednesday versus Eastern Washington at 2:30 p.m. at Idaho Central Arena.
