Box Score LAS VEGAS, NV. (March 8, 2022) - The Lumberjacks made their mark in the first match of their extended road trip, defeating the Illinois State Redbirds, 4-0 on Tuesday night.
While extending their win streak to five straight matches, the 'Jacks improve to an overall record of 12-4.
Starting off the night with the doubles point swinging towards NAU, all three Lumberjack pairings brought in wins to kick off the team's momentum.
Facundo Tumosa and partner Eban Straker-Meads earned a 7-5 win on court one, while Dominik Buzonics and Alex Groves brought in the 6-3 victory on court two. Maciej Ziomber and Daniel Dillon were ahead in their court three matchup, 6-5, before retiring the match and moving on to singles play.
To improve his overall singles record to 11-4, Buzonics played at the No. 3 position, earning a 6-3, 7-5 victory to give NAU their second point. Ziomber, competing at the No. 4 position, earned a 6-1, 6-2 victory, moving his record up to 12-2, while Groves wrapped up the match for a Lumberjack victory.
Groves brought in a 6-3, 6-3 win at the No. 5 position, improving his singles record to 12-3. Tumosa, Straker-Meads, and Joachim Schaefer's matches were all retired after the 'Jacks clinched the win.
Tumosa won his first set match, 6-4, and was tied up with opponent Nam Pham at 6-6 before the match was retired. Straker-Meads dropped the first set 6-7, before pulling ahead at 4-0 to Illinois' Melker Isaksson in the second set, where the match was then retired. Schaefer battled on court six, facing Zane Kohrs, dropping the first set 1-6, bounced back in set two with a 6-3 win, before falling behind at 2-5 ahead of the match being retired.
