AZUSA, Calif. (April 14, 2022) — Northern Arizona creates movement amongst regional and conference rankings after strong performances at the Bryan Clay Invitational and the Long Beach State Pacific Coast Collegiate.
The Lumberjack distance squad was up to their usual antics, as nine athletes found slots within the top-48 of the west region in their respective events.
Melanie Loff (2:05.56) and Maggi Congdon (2:06.32) started the day with a vengeance, sequentially finishing the women's 800-meter at No. 1 and No. 2 in the Big Sky this season.
Meanwhile, Annika Reiss (16:06.42), Jessa Hanson (16:09.44), Meagan Van Pelt (16:11.69), Nikita Moore (16:18.09), and Delaney Rasmussen (16:23.35) now rank 3-4-5-7-9 on the Big Sky women's 5K leaderboard this season; after tonight's performances, the NAU women own seven of the eight 5K scoring conference positions.
Brodey Hasty (13:42.28) and Ryan Raff (13:51.31) made moves as well, respectively running the fourth and fifth-fastest Big Sky times so far this season.
The Lumberjack throwers channeled the team momentum from miles away, as Jay Nielsen (52.45m) and Rudy Tapia (51.08m) became third and sixth on the men's discus conference leaderboard and Matilde Roe (13.99m) and Parker Bays (16.96m) now respectively rank fifth on the women's and men's Big Sky shot put lists.
NAU will continue competing at the Bryan Clay Invitational and the Long Beach State Pacific Coast Collegiate tomorrow, as well as the Mt. San Antonio College Mt. Sac Relays.
