AZUSA, Calif. (April 15, 2022) - With near perfect conditions at the outdoor track, the Lumberjacks, once again, recorded top conference and regional marks; Abdihamid Nur (3:36.33) also broke both the Big Sky and Northern Arizona University men's 1500-meter records.
The evening was highlighted by the men's and women's 1500-meter races, in which Nur (13:36.33), George Kusche (3:37.31), Nico Young (3:37.75), Drew Bosley (3:39.32), Theo Quax (3:41.32), Caleb Easton (3:42.64), Bryn Morley (4:19.29), and Elise Stearns (4:20.36) recorded times within the top-48 of the west region; Nur's time currently ranks first amongst the region and second in the NCAA this season.
The region's fastest times were posted tonight, as Nur, Kusche, and Young now rank within the top-eight this season; this trio, in addition to Bosley, Quax, and Easton now hold the 1-2-3-4-5-7 top slots on the men's 1500-meter leaderboard this season. Meanwhile, Morley, Stearns, Maggi Congdon (4:24.32), and Nikita Moore (4:26.57) now sit 1-2-4-6 in the Big Sky.
As if the Lumberjack men hadn't accomplished enough tonight, they quickly turned around and ran the 5,000-meter race at the Mt. Sac Relays just two-hours later; pacing to perfection, Kusche (13:42.28) led Nur (13:42.31), Bosley (13:42.32) and Young (13:42.32) to additional top-48 times. Nur, Bosley and Young are also respectively ranked fourth and tied for fifth in the Big Sky this season.
Earlier today, at the Mt. Sac Relays, David Dunlap ran a personal best men's 100-meter time of 10.35 to qualify for tomorrow's final, replace his current conference leading season time, and find a slot within the top-48 of the region.
Miracle Onyemaobi also had quite the day, as she recorded a personal best women's 400-meter time of 54.43 to become first in the Big Sky this season, and join the top-48; fellow Lumberjacks LiNay Perry (55.18) and Kyairra Reigh (55.37) now respectively sit second and third on the conference leaderboard this season as well.
Meanwhile, in the field, Mitchell Effing found success in the pit, long jumping a personal best mark of 7.59 meters to become first in the Big Sky and rank amongst the region's top-48 places; with a jump of 5.69m, Lily Margolis now sits sixth on the women's long jump conference leaderboard.
At the Long Beach State Beach Invitational, Trevor Hook threw the men's javelin 64.18 meters to become fourth in the Big Sky, while McKenna Chaney threw the women's hammer 53.57m which ranks sixth in the conference this season.
