WOLCOTT, Colo. (September 27, 2022) – The Northern Arizona golf team slipped a spot on the leaderboard to 14th after shooting a 17-over par 305 during the second round of the Golfweek Red Sky Classic at Red Sky Golf Club on Tuesday. The Lumberjacks will enter Wednesday's final round at 24-over par 600 (295-305).
Unlike in the first round where the Lumberjacks played the back nine well, the front nine treated NAU better on Tuesday. NAU's four counting golfers combined to shoot 7-over par on the front nine compared to 10-over par on the back nine.
The 'Jacks were led by fifth-year
Aleksandra Chekalina, who shot a team-low 1-over par 73. Chekalina, who carded four of NAU's nine birdies on Tuesday, is tied for 21st overall at 3-over par 147 (74-73).
Chekalina's best stretch of the day came from holes 11-14 where she recorded three of her four birdies on the day. Through two rounds, Chekalina is second on the team with both 24 pars and five birdies.
Shooting the team's second-lowest round was senior
Lorel Hayward, who is tied for 54th at 7-over par 151 (75-76). Starting on the back nine, Hayward was even-par through eight holes before three straight bogeys around the turn. Hayward settled in to close the round with six pars in her final seven holes.
Hayward is tied individually with freshman
Lizzie Neale, who shot 7-over par 79 in the second round after carding an even-par 72 on Monday. A day after posting six birdies, Neale did not register a birdie in the second round and finished with 11 pars.

Ellena Slater and fifth-year
Ashley Croft were NAU's final two counting scores after carding 6-over par 78. The two 'Jacks struggled through the first nine holes combining to shoot 9-over par, but like their teammates, they rebounded on the front nine where they combined to shoot 3-over par.
Slater is tied for 59th at 8-over par 152 (74-78) and Croft is tied for 81st at 14-over par 158 (80-78).
The final 18 holes on Wednesday will begin with a 9:15 a.m. shotgun start. Live scoring will be available on
