FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. (January 20, 2022) – The Northern Arizona University track and field teams saw another successful Friday night, as yet another school and conference record fell at the Lumberjack Team Challenge.
David Dunlap ran a time of 46.21 in the 400-meter, toppling another school and conference record. Dunlap's time also puts him at fifth in the nation.
The women's 4x400-meter relay also inked their name in the history book, with their time earning them third place on the program record list.
LiNay Perry, LaTrouchka Duke,
Alonna Johnson, and
Kyairra Reigh combined to run a time of 3:43.01, easily taking the event victory.
Altogether the sprints team was strong once again, with
Trenton Givens and
Tyson Givens leading the way in the 60-meter hurdles. They placed first and second, running personal best times of 7.88 and 7.99 in the preliminaries and times of 7.94 and 8.01 in the finals.
The women's 200-meter race saw five athletes hit new personal bests.
Alyssa Colbert ran a time of 24.11 to place second, with
Kyairra Reigh close behind in third, running a 24.12. Also running a personal best time in the race was LaTrouchka Duke,
Alonna Johnson,
LiNay Perry, and
Janelle Sanchez. The men's 200-meter race also saw multiple new PRs, with
Zach Schroeder,
Ethan Seppala, and
Matthew Roma running strong races.
Kenya Coburn ran a time of 7.66 in the 60-meter finals to take third place, while
Kyle Smith took fourth place in the men's race with a time of 6.90.
Another strong event group was the throwers, with senior
John Murphy leading the way. Murphy won the event with a throw of 20.13 meters.
Desmond Lott earned his second consecutive PR, throwing a distance of 19.68 meters in the weight throw and placing third.
Parker Bays took fourth place in the event, throwing a distance of 18.39 meters.
The shot put was just as strong, with
Parker Bays and
Jake Tucker taking fourth and fifth place respectively. Bays threw for a distance of 16.91 meters, while Tucker threw for 16.40 meters to set a new personal best.
In the men's mile,
Brodey Hasty and
Santiago Gomez-Prosser took home second and third place respectively in their first meet of the season. Hasty ran a time of 4:12.94 to set a new personal best, with Gomez-Prosser close behind with a time of 4:14.25. For the women,
Annika Reiss,
Maggi Congdon, and
Bryn Morley placed 4-5-6 in the mile in a tough field of competitors.
In the women's 800-meter the Lumberjacks placed 3-4-5-6, with
Maggi Congdon taking third after running a time of 2:09.87.
Annika Reiss placed fourth with a time of 2:11.00, while
Bryn Morley was right behind with a time of 2:14.21. Both Reiss and Morley's times were personal bests.
Samantha Blair took sixth place in her NAU debut, running a time of 2:19.71.
Odessa Zentz made her mark as she ran the 400-meter for the first time, placing first with a time of 58.26.
Nikita Moore also had a strong race for the women's distance squad, taking second in the 3,000-meter with a personal best time of 10:19.33.
The men's distance crew started their season off strong, placing 1-2-3-4 in the 3,000-meter.
Theo Quax won the event with a personal best time of 8:30.22.
Erik Le Roux ran a time of 8:33.30 to take second, with
Corey Gorgas right behind in third with a time of 8:36.68.
Terrence Keyes placed fourth after running a time of 8:44.51.
The jumps crew had a successful meet despite being smaller in number, with
Lily Margolis and
Jack Normand each taking third in their respective events. Margolis competed in the triple jump, leaping to a distance of 11.37 meters, while
Jack Normand took third place in the high jump after jumping 2.03 meters.
Joshua Bennett earned a new personal best in the long jump, while
Gabbie Hasskamp and
Olivia Conklin competed in the high jump for the first time in their collegiate careers. Both Hasskamp and Conklin reached a height of 1.57 meters.
Next week the Lumberjacks are on the road, splitting up as they send groups to the John Thomas Terrier Classic, the Texas Tech Open and Multis, the UNM Team Open, and the UW Invitational.
