ARLINGTON, Texas (November 8, 2023) – Seniors Maddy Rey and Victoria Knapp picked up NAU Swimming and Diving's first weekly awards of the season from the WAC on Wednesday. Rey earned Swimmer of the Week, and Knapp received Diver of the Week honors from the conference.
This marks the first time that Northern Arizona has swept the WAC Swimming and Diving weekly awards since Nov. 23, 2022, when Casey Craffey and Makenna Sammons took home both honors for the Lumberjacks
In the dual meet against New Mexico on Nov. 4, Rey had the fastest time in three events: the 200-yard freestyle, the 100-yard butterfly and the 200-yard individual medley.
Rey's 1:53.10 performance in the 200 free was the fourth-best time by any swimmer in the WAC this season, and her 56.44 in the butterfly and 2:07.98 in the individual medley were the fifth and seventh fastest times in the conference.
The senior from Columbia, Illinois, won the 200 IM by more than five seconds over the next fastest swimmer and her freestyle event by more than three.
It was a clean sweep for Knapp in both the 1-meter and 3-meter dives as she led NAU in taking the top three team scores in both diving events.
The Mesa, Arizona native Knapp finished with a final score of 327.30 in the 3-meter dives and 285.53 in the 1-meter event. Her 3-meter score was her best since putting up 334.50 on Feb. 5, 2022.
