BOSTON, Mass. (December 2, 2023) – The Northern Arizona University track team saw an exciting start to its indoor season at the Boston University Sharon Colyear-Danville Season Opener.
Nico Young picked up right where he left off after his impressive cross country season, taking first in a stacked 3000-meter race that included the nation's top collegiate and professional athletes. Young ran a personal best time of 7:37.73, earning him a spot at No. 3 on the All-Time Indoor Collegiate 3K list.
Drew Bosley was not far behind in sixth place, running a time of 7:43.98. Aaron Las Heras also competed in the 3K, finishing 13
th with a personal best time of 7:54.07.
Annika Reiss started her indoor season strong with a 15
th place finish in the women's 5000-meter race after running a time of 15:37.94.
Elise Stearns and Gracelyn Larkin placed 17
th and 18
th respectively, finishing with times of 15:38.11 and 15:38.18. Aliandrea Upshaw ran a time of 15:56.67 in her first track meet as a Lumberjack, finishing in 41
st place. Maisie Grice placed 56
th overall after running a time of 16:11.70, while Ruby Smee finished 69
th with a time of 16:20.45.
Young and Bosley also competed in the 5K, placing 10
th and 18
th respectively. Young ran a time of 13:22.96 while Bosley ran a time of 13:29.26.
Theo Quax had a strong race, finishing 20
th with a time of 13:29.48.
Brodey Hasty placed 40
th with a personal best time of 13:42.20 in his first race of the indoor season, while
Kang Nyoak finished 43
rd after running a time of 13:43.76.
Colin Sahlman opened his season with a 58
th place finish after running a time of 13:52.42.
Corey Gorgas was the final NAU competitor in the 5K, finishing 79
th with a time of 13:56.23.
The Lumberjacks will continue their indoor season on January 12 when they host their first meet of the season, the Friday Night Axe 'Em Open.
