ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (February 11, 2023) – The Northern Arizona University track & field teams finished their road trip with a bang, setting yet another new school record at the Don Kirby Invitational.
In Albuquerque, the women's 4x400-meter relay finished in a time of 3:37.89, easily toppling the previous record set in 2018 and finishing second in the event. Running for the Lumberjacks was
LiNay Perry,
Kyairra Reigh,
Alonna Johnson, and LaTrouchka Duke.
Reigh also ran in the 400-meter, running a time of 53.89 to finish in seventh place. Johnson finished 15
th in the 400-meter with a time of 54.92. Also competing for the sprints was
Kenya Coburn who finished 16
th in the 60-meter with a time of 7.67.
NAU had several competitors in the triple jump, headlined by
Mitchell Effing finishing eighth with a mark of 15.47 meters.
Jack Normand and
Sirr Butler also had strong jumps, finishing 16
th and 18
th respectively. Normand jumped 14.89 meters and Butler jumped 14.62 meters.
Malachi Marshall and
Lily Margolis each earned a new personal best, with Marshall jumping 13.96 meters and Margolis jumping 1.68 meters.
The throws squad also had a solid day as they competed in the shot put.
Desmond Lott threw for a distance of 15.80 meters while
Jake Tucker threw 15.54 meters. For the women,
Alaina Diggs threw 13.67 meters.
Nico Young competed at the 115
th Millrose Games in New York, racing in an extremely deep 3000-meter field. He ran a personal best time of 7:51.21 to finish 11
th overall.
The rest of the distance squad raced at the Husky Classic.
Maggi Congdon raced in the 800-meter, finishing eighth with a time of 2:05.62. Her time puts her at second in NAU history in the event. Congdon also competed in the mile, running a time of 4:38.35 to finish eighth. Her time once again puts her at second in NAU history in the event.
Nikita Moore also competed in the mile, finishing 14
th with a time of 4:41.03 to earn a spot at number five on the all-time list.
Bryn Morley also earned her spot on the list at number six, running a time of 4:42.22 to finish 17
th in the race.
Theo Quax led the NAU men in the mile, running a time of 4:00.61 to finish ninth.
Kang Nyoak also competed in the event, finishing 17
th with a time of 4:02.43.
