FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. (February 17, 2023) - Northern Arizona Men's Tennis (5-1) will head back on the road for another doubleheader against the UC San Diego Tritons (3-7) on Sunday at 8 a.m. and 12 p.m. MST.
The Jacks are coming off a powerful two-win week as NAU earned a 6-1 at New Mexico State and a 6-1 neutral site match to Western New Mexico. NAU is looking to continuing it's win streak, while extending momentum through doubles play as the team in undefeated in doubles this season.
NAU duo Alex Groves and Piotr Galus have found chemistry on the doubles scene, going 6-0 through the season as each other's only doubles partner through all six matches. The pairing has played primarily at the No. 2 position while bringing in two victories at the No. 1.
Galus also leads the Jacks in singles play as the sophomore is 6-0 at the No. 2 and No. 3 spots. Groves remains undefeated in singles as well with a 4-0 record, followed by Morgan Donovan who is 3-0, and Daniel Dillon and Maciej Ziomber both 2-0 in singles this season.
The Jacks last took on the Tritons in Flagstaff last season as NAU earned a 7-0 sweep. The Lumberjacks were able to sweep the doubles point to start off a seemingly quick matchup, picking up six two-set victories in singles play.
The Tritons are in their third season of transitioning into Division I competition, as UC San Diego will enter the Big West in the 2024-25 season, making the Tritons eligible for NCAA post-season play.
Triton sophomore Charles Qian leads the team with a 6-2 record in singles play, primarily playing in the No. 6. Diogo Tinoco and Eric Silberman have gone 3-4 in doubles play as UCSD's top doubles pairing so far this season.
