Men’s Tennis Heading to Oregon for Four Matches this Weekend

FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. (February 22, 2023) - The 7-1 Lumberjacks are heading on the road for a four-match road stint in Oregon as NAU will face its first Big Sky opponent in Portland State, followed by Portland, George Fox, and Pacific University Oregon throughout the weekend.

The Jacks are led by sophomore Piotr Galus who has gone 8-0 through both singles and doubles play, playing primarily at the No. 2. Galus leads the Big Sky Conference in singles play as well, with the most wins through the season. Galus has primarily played doubles with partner Alex Groves, as the two sit at the top of the conference with the most doubles wins.

The Jacks have won every doubles point this season, marking eight consecutive doubles point wins with a team 21-1 doubles record. NAU has gone 38-7 through singles play in the first eight matches of the season.

The Portland State Vikings will head into Friday's Big Sky matchup with a 5-4 overall record, going 1-1 through conference matches. The Vikings opened up league play last week, hosting Sacramento State and Idaho State on Friday and Saturday. PSU dropped the match to the Hornets 5-2 with wins coming at the No. 3 and the No. 6. The Viks brought in a close 4-3 victory to the Bengals, after picking up points in doubles, and at the No. 1, No. 2, and No. 4.

The Vikings are led by freshman Luka Jovanovic, who holds a 5-3 record through the season in singles play, sitting in the No. 3 slot. The Vikings have an overall singles record of 28-26. Portland State doubles' duo Jovanovic and Andrea Brignacca hold a 5-3 record, primarily at the No. 3.

Portland will enter Saturday's match with a 4-3 record overall, as the Pilots are coming off a two match win streak to UNLV and Idaho State. ISU earned the doubles point, forcing Portland to bring in wins at the No. 1, No. 3, No. 4, No. 5, and No. 6.

George Fox has started the spring with a 2-3 record, playing matches against Big Sky opponents Portland State and Idaho State, while dropping both. GFU's wins came to Lewis-Clark State and William Jessup.

Pacific holds a 2-1 record this season, dropping their season opener to Portland State and going on to sweep Williamette University in a 9-0 match followed by an 8-1 victory. The Boxers will face Lewis & Clark college on Saturday morning before taking on the Jacks in the Sunday doubleheader.
