Lumberjacks Host Doubleheader on Wednesday

FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. (March 13, 2023) - NAU Men's Tennis (10-2) is set to host Pratt Community College (3-3) and Omaha (8-6) on Wednesday for a doubleheader at the Aquatic and Tennis Complex.

NAU is coming off a big 7-0 win against Air Force on Friday, where the Jacks gave the Falcons just their second loss of the season, marking their first against a Big Sky opponent. Air Force had picked up three 4-3 victories against Montana, Idaho, and Idaho State prior to NAU's sweep of the Falcons on Friday.

Maikel De Boes is coming off his first Big Sky player of the week accolades while also moving up to the No. 1 spot for the Jacks and earning two victories at the top of the lineup. De Boes defeated No. 66 Gonzaga Bulldog Sasha Trkulja in three sets and the Freshman went on to defeat No. 68 Air Force Academy Falcon Nick Vroman to improve his overall singles record to 7-2 this season.

Piotr Galus leads the Lumberjacks in overall singles with a 11-1 record, primarily playing at the No. 2 with three victories at the No. 3 added to his resume. Galus and Alex Groves lead the Jacks in doubles play as well as the duo hold an 8-2 record, primarily at the No. 2.

NAU is currently leading the Big Sky with an 83.3 win percentage this season. The Jacks have twelve matches left on schedule before the Big Sky Tournament in Phoenix, Ariz. from Apr. 27-29, including seven conference matchups.

Pratt CC will enter Wednesday morning's matchup with a 3-3 record this season, with wins coming to Concordia, Seward County CC, and Mesa CC. The Beavers have won their last two matchups, with three matches on schedule ahead of the Wednesday morning match against the Jacks.

The Omaha Mavericks are on a three match losing streak to Arkansas, Nebraska, and Grand Canyon University while slated to play Ottawa Monday afternoon before Wednesday's matchup.

Omaha is led by Quintan Van Wijk who is 9-1 in singles play this year for the Mavericks. The Mav's have seen success in doubles play from Ethan Gaubert and Ryoma Mishiro who hold a 9-3 record this season.
