FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. (March 17, 2023) - After a doubleheader sweep of Pratt CC and Omaha at home on Wednesday, the Lumberjacks are heading back on the road for a Saturday morning matchup at UNLV to take on the Rebels at 11 a.m. MST.
On Tuesday, the Jacks jumped ten spots in the ITA's national rankings, being named No. 65 after two consecutive victories against nationally ranked opponents in No. 66 Gonzaga and No. 68 Air Force. NAU has also claimed the last three Big Sky player of the week awards as Facundo Tumosa, Maikel De Boes, and Piotr Galus all brought in the honors for the Lumberjacks.
The Jacks completed a 7-0 victory against Pratt CC on Wednesday morning before going on to defeat Omaha in a 6-1 match that afternoon. With the two home wins, NAU improved to 12-2 this season, leading the Big Sky with an 85.7 win percentage.
The Lumberjacks as a team have only lost 14 singles matches total with an overall singles record of 65-14. Galus leads the team with a 12-1 record, only suffering a loss to the No. 17 Arizona Wildcats. Maciej Ziomber also only has one loss, sitting with a 6-1 record this season.
In addition to the Jacks impressive singles play, NAU holds a 31-5 record in doubles this season. Galus and Alex Groves lead the team with a 10-2 record, picking up eight wins at the No. 2 and two victories at the No. 1.
UNLV will enter Saturday's match with a 7-5 record, highlighted by a 6-1 home record. Dusan Rsovac leads the Rebels in singles play with a 7-2 dual record, primarily playing at the No. 5 with four wins, adding three at the No. 4.
In doubles play, the Rebels hold a 26-21 record as a team, led by dup Milos Dabic and Maxim Verboven who are 9-3 in dual matches as the No. 1 position. The Rebels last two matches have been canceled due to weather, making the team's last match on Feb. 26 against Nevada where UNLV fell 4-1. The Rebels are set to get back to action today against Santa Clara at 1 p.m.
