Austin, Texas (March 30, 2023) – The Northern Arizona University track & field teams saw a quick first day of competition at the Texas Relays and Bobcat Invitational, with only three athletes competing. Despite the small number of competitors, the Lumberjacks also saw impressive marks and success in tough fields.
Highlighting the day was a school record in the javelin from
Trevor Hook. His mark of 68.49 meters during the B section at the Texas Relays cements his place at the top of the Big Sky and puts him within the top-20 in the nation in the event.
Also competing at the Texas Relays was
John Murphy. He competed in a stacked hammer throw field, throwing 64.47 meters. This is Murphy's third throw over 64 meters so far this season as he sits at the top of the conference in the event and 21
st nationally.
At the Bobcat Invitational,
Brenna Rodriguez was the sole NAU athlete competing. Rodriguez jumped a personal best 5.63 meters in the long jump to finish 10
th in a tough field. Her mark will move her to the top of the Big Sky in the event.
There is a lot more competition left to come this weekend for the Lumberjacks. Competition will resume at the Texas Relays and the Bobcat Invitational, while starting at the Stanford Invitational. Live results for the Texas Relays can be found
