FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. (March 9, 2023) - The Lumberjacks are returning home for the first time in over a month to host the Air Force Academy after the team brought in their first ITA ranking this season, coming in at No. 75.
The ITA ranking comes as the third in Men's Tennis program history at NAU, as the Jacks picked up the first and second last season. Yesterday, the ITA announced NAU Men's Tennis as the No. 75 team in the nation after an impressive weekend in Tucson where the Jacks put up a solid battle against the No. 17 Arizona in a 4-1 loss, before going on to claim victory over No. 66 Gonzaga in a 4-3 match.
NAU is coming off their first back-to-back Big Sky player of the week honors this season as Facundo Tumosa and Maikel De Boes earned the accolades on March 1 and March 7, respectively.
The Lumberjacks earned a point off of the No. 17 Arizona Wildcats in a 4-1 loss on the road, as Dominik Buznoics pulled off a victory at the No. 3 spot. The Jacks went on to defeat the No. 66 Gonzaga Bulldogs in Tucson in a 4-3 match for the Jacks first ITA ranked victory of the season. The Jacks are 9-2 through the season so far, led by sophomore Piotr Galus who is 10-1 in his debut season with NAU.
The Air Force Academy is 11-1 on the season, with their only loss coming to North Florida in 5-2 fashion on Feb. 17. The Falcons will enter the Friday matchup on a four match win streak, led by Phillip Deaton who is 9-0 playing primarily at No. 5 slot with one win at the No. 3 and two and the No. 4.
