Lumberjacks Head into Third Round of the Bobcat Desert Classic in Fifth

ROUND TWO RESULTS

GOODYEAR, Ariz. (April 10, 2023) – The Northern Arizona University women's golf team took the course once again today for the second round of the Bobcat Desert Classic. After shooting a 297 (+9) yesterday in round one, the Lumberjacks shot a 307 (+19) today in round two to bring their total to 604 (+28), sitting in fifth heading into the third and final round tomorrow (April 11).
 
The classic is being played at the Golf Club of Estrella (72-par, 6,279-yards) in Goodyear, Ariz., and features 11 total teams. Eight of those teams are from the Big Sky Conference, and the 'Jacks rank third out of the league squads. The Lumberjacks are just seven strokes out of fourth place and 12 out of second.
 
The day was highlighted by an albatross by Ashley Croft on a par-five on the eighth hole. Croft shot a 75 (+3) today, the best round today for NAU, and had one birdie. She improved from an 81 (+9) yesterday and now sits tied for 37th place with a total of 156 (+12) strokes.
 
Ellena Slater leads the 'Jacks after shooting a 76 (+4) today. She finished strong with two birdies on the 17^th and 18^th holes to end the round and had four total on the day. She is in second place going into tomorrow's third round after shooting a 69 (-3) yesterday, bringing her total to 145 (+1) strokes.
 
Lizzie Neale has played consistently this tournament, turning in another 76 (+4) after shooting the same total yesterday. She is now tied for 21st with 152 strokes (+8). Aleksandra Chekalina shot an 80 (+8) today. After shooting a 72 (E) yesterday, she is also tied for 21st with 152 (+8) strokes.
 
Lorel Hayward is competing as an individual and shot a 78 (+6) today. Hayward shot a 76 (+4) yesterday and is tied for 34^th with 154 (+10) strokes through two rounds.
 
Nina Lukyanenko is tied for 50^th after shooting an 82 (+10) today. After shooting an 80 (+8) yesterday, she has a total of 162 (+18) strokes. She had one birdie on the eighth hole.
 
The third and final round takes place tomorrow morning with a shotgun start at 7:30 a.m. Live scoring can be followed on Golfstat.
