AZUSA, Calif. (April 13, 2023) – The Northern Arizona University track & field teams started their busy California road trip with athletes competing at the Pacific Coast Invitational and the Bryan Clay Invitational.
Taryn O'Neill highlighted the day with her performance in the 3000-meter steeplechase at the Bryan Clay Invitational. O'Neill ran a time of 10:04.00, the second fastest time in NAU history for the event, to place 12
th in a stacked field.
Also competing at the Bryan Clay Invitational were
Gabbie Hasskamp and
Olivia Conklin. They each completed the first stages of the heptathlon, competing in the 100-meter hurdles, high jump, shot put, and 200-meter. Hasskamp currently sits in 11th place with a score of 2632 with Conklin not far behind in 18
th with a score of 2419.
At the Pacific Coast Invitational,
Desmond Lott and
Parker Bays competed in the men's hammer throw. Lott finished 10
th with a mark of 61.11 meters, his second-best throw of the season. Bays threw 56.59 meters, also hitting his second-best mark of the season, to finish 20
th. In the women's hammer throw
Sariyah Horne-Kemp threw a distance of 51.43 meters.
Jay Nielsen and
Garret Bernt competed in the first section of the men's discus, throwing 48.36 meters and 43.02 meters respectively.
Competing in the running events at the Pacific Coast Invitational today were
Tyson Givens and
Kyle Smith. Givens ran in the 110-meter hurdles, finishing 12
th with a wind-aided time of 14.52. Smith competed in the 100-meter, finishing seventh with a wind-aided time of 10.52.
The Lumberjacks will resume competition tomorrow at the Bryan Clay invitational and will begin competition at the Mt. SAC Relays. Results for the Bryan Clay Invitational can be found
