FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. (April 21, 2023) — The Lumberjacks are heading to Phoenix to take on GCU for the final match of the regular season, as the team looks to close in on the best win percentage in program history.
With a win against the Lopes on Saturday, NAU will finish the season with a 21-2 overall record this season, with the Jacks two losses coming to No. 63 Denver and No. 17 Arizona.
The Jacks are coming off of clinching the Big Sky regular season championship after going undefeated in conference play. NAU picked up a 5-2 victory over Montana and a 6-1 victory over previously undefeated Weber State.
Currently on a 12 match win streak, the Jacks are led by Dominik Buzonics and Alex Groves who each hold a 15-2 record on the singles courts with Buzonics primarily playing at the No. 4 and Groves primarily at the No. 5. Groves and doubles partner Piotr Galus lead the team in overall doubles with a 16-3 record this season.
Grand Canyon will be heading into Saturday's match with a 6-12 overall record and a 2-3 in the Western Athletic Conference. The Lopes won their last match against UTRGV in a comeback 5-2 victory.
GCU is led by Alfred Almasi who has gone 8-9 this season while primarily playing at the No. 3. Jonathan Da Silva and Wyatt Anderson lead the Lopes in doubles play as the duo has gone an undefeated 3-0 this season at the No. 3.
