TEMPE, Ariz. (April 25, 2023) — The Lumberjacks will head into the Big Sky tournament as the No. 1 seed and the No. 71 ranked in the ITA. This week's ranking marks the eighth consecutive week of being honored in the ITA's top 75 programs in Division I.
The ranking comes after the Jacks closed out the regular season with a 21-2 overall record, taking down Western Athletic Conference opponent GCU in a 6-1 match in Phoenix. NAU finished the regular season with a program best win percentage of 91.3 percent, as the team only suffered losses to Denver at No. 17 Arizona this season.
Looking to reclaim the Big Sky tournament title, the Jacks will begin play on Friday in a semifinal matchup after receiving the first round bye with a undefeated 7-0 record in conference play this season.
Leading the Jacks through singles play are senior Alex Groves and junior Dominik Buzonics who each hold a 16-2 record while each on an 11 match win streak themselves. Sophomore Piotr Galus closely follows the two with a 19-3 record while primarily playing at No. 2.
Through doubles play, the pairing of Groves and Gals continue to see success together, primarily playing at the No. 2 spot with an overall record of 17-3. The duo have clinched the last two doubles points for the Jacks against Weber State and GCU.
