FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. (April 6, 2023) – The No. 61 Northern Arizona University men's tennis team extended their win streak to nine matches following a 5-2 victory over Sacramento State.
The 'Jacks began the day with wins on two doubles courts to secure the first point of the match.
Piotr Galus and
Alex Groves saw a close match on court two, eventually pulling ahead to win 6-4.
Dominik Buzoniks and
Daniel Dillon had an early lead on court three, winning their match 6-4 to clinch the doubles point.
Maikel De Boes and
Facundo Tumosa's match on court one was left unfinished.
Alex Groves had an easy day on court five, winning his match in consecutive 6-3, 6-3 sets to earn the first singles point for NAU.
Despite losing his match,
Maikel De Boes put up a strong effort on court one as he pushed each set to a tiebreak. De Boes dropped his first set 5-7 and pushed his second to a 6-6 tie before eventually losing 6-7.
Maciej Ziomber had a back-and-forth first set on court six, winning in a tiebreak 7-6. His second set was much quicker as he won 6-3.
Facundo Tumosa saw another close match, with both his sets going to a tiebreak. He won consecutive 7-5 sets to clinch the match for the Lumberjacks.
Dominik Buzonics also had a gritty win on court four, winning his first set 7-6 before dropping the second in a 5-7 tiebreak. Buzonics emerged victorious after a 10-3 final tiebreak.
Piotr Galus was the last Lumberjack standing after pushing his match to three sets. He dropped a close first set 6-7 before coming back to dominate in the second set, winning 6-0. Galus lost his third set 1-6 to end the match.
