Lumberjacks Advance Three to NCAA National Championships on Third Day of West Regional

SACRAMENTO, Calif. (May 26, 2023) – The Northern Arizona University track & field teams had a successful third day of competition at the NCAA West Regional, with three athletes qualifying for the NCAA National Championships.
 
Colin Sahlman started things off strong for the 'Jacks, finishing fourth in his heat of the 1,500-meter in a time of 3:50.01 to earn his spot at the national championships.
 
David Dunlap kept the momentum going as he turned in a personal best time of 20.28 in the 200-meter, finishing second in his heat and punching his ticket to Austin.
 
The 5,000-meter was the final race of the day for NAU, with all five athletes competing putting up strong efforts.
 
Nico Young won the second heat in a time of 13:33.77, easily securing his place at the national championships. Theo Quax wasn't far behind, finishing in a time of 13:40.79 to just miss out on a trip to Austin.
 
Santiago Gomez-Prosser ran a personal best time of 13:46.94 to finish 17th overall, while Cael Grotenuis and Kang Nyoak finished 27th and 44th respectively. Grotenhuis ran a time of 13:57.58 while Nyoak finished in a time of 14:31.76.
 
The NCAA West Regional will see it's last day of competition tomorrow, with the women finishing out the weekend competition.
