Golf Reveals 2023-24 Schedule

2023-24 Schedule

FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. (Aug. 10, 2023) – In preparation for the 2023-24 season, Northern Arizona University head golf coach Brad Bedortha has unveiled the team's schedule.

The Lumberjacks play in a total of nine regular season tournaments split between the Fall and Spring leading up to the Big Sky Conference Championships in April. The schedule is highlighted by two tournaments that NAU will host, The Clash at Boulder Creek and the Red Rocks Invitational.

"We are excited for the upcoming season's tournaments. We have a few new events on our schedule this year, and it's always nice to compete at some new courses and tournaments," said Bedortha. "We have the two tournaments that we host and some events that we have competed in the past, therefore, it's a great mix of tournaments and I am looking forward to getting the Fall semester started and preparing for a great season."

Northern Arizona begins the Fall with three new tournaments before hosting the third-annual Clash at Boulder Creek. The Fall portion of the schedule kicks off on Sept. 18-19 at the Leadership and Golf Invitational that is co-hosted by Washington and Seattle at the Chambers Bay Golf Course in University Place, Wash.

The following week takes the Jacks to Saratoga Springs, Utah, for the Big Sky 54 for IX Invitational at the Talons Cove Golf Course on Sept. 25-26. The event is the first-of-its-kind and is hosted by the conference. All 10 conference teams, plus several Division I programs from the state of Utah, will be competing.

October begins in Las Cruces, N.M., for the Golf Iconic Classic at the New Mexico State University Golf Course from Oct. 9-11.

The Fall slate concludes on Oct. 22-24 when NAU hosts the third-annual Clash at Boulder Creek in Boulder City, Nev., at the Boulder Creek Golf Club. Last season, the Lumberjacks posted their highest finish of the Fall at the tournament, finishing sixth out of the 17-team field.

Spring begins with a familiar tournament and a place where NAU found success last season. The Lumberjacks head to Palm Desert, Calif., for Mountain Classic Match Play on Feb. 12-14 at the Classic Club. The event is hosted by Wyoming and Boise State and NAU finished runners-up a season ago to Nevada after upsetting the Broncos on the first day.

February concludes at the Grand Canyon Invitational from Feb. 27-28. The two-day tournament takes place in Phoenix, Ariz., and is hosted by Grand Canyon at its host course. Last season, the Lumberjacks walked away with a second-place finish after shooting an 858 (-6) for a new program record through 54 holes. Also highlighting the action was Ellena Slater who shot a 67 (-5), tying a program record.

Following the invitational, Northern Arizona returns to the friendly confines of the Oakcreek Country Club for the Red Rocks Invitational from March 16-17 in Sedona, Ariz. It's the 18th installment of NAU's home tournament and the Jacks have claimed the individual title two years in a row.

Northern Arizona then makes the trek to Fresno, Calif., for the Fresno State Classic on March 25-26 at the Copper River Country Club. The final regular season tournament of the Spring brings NAU back to the familiar Wyoming Cowgirl Classic in Maricopa, Ariz., at the Southern Dunes Golf Club from April 3-4.

The Big Sky Championship is held on April 15-17 with a location still to be determined. The Lumberjacks finished fourth overall last season and won the team title in 2022.

Returning for NAU this season is a trio of All-Big Sky golfers in Slater, Lizzie Neale and Lorel Hayward. The 2022 individual conference champion, Ekaterina Malakhova, and sophomore Nina Lukyanenko also return along with newcomers Frankie Dezis and Amy Hodgkins.
