FARMINGTON, Utah (August 22, 2023) – The Lumberjacks own,
Maddie Shafer, earned Big Sky co-offensive player of the week honors after NAU's 1-0-1 opening matches, marking the fourth time the senior has brought in the award in her career.
Shafer led the Jacks to their first win of the regular season against Conference USA opponent, UTEP in Texas. With a 3-2 victory, NAU's senior forward recorded an assist along with the game-winning goal.
After opening weekend, Shafer now sits in second in the Big Sky in points with three total while averaging 70 minutes per game. Shafer ended the 2022 season at the top of the conference leaderboard in points, finishing the season with 16.
The Lumberjacks will begin a three-game home stretch this Friday as the regular season home opener will kick off against Cal State Bakersfield at 7 p.m. MST at Lumberjack Stadium. All home games are free and open to the public.
