Three NAU Track & Field Athletes Earn Big Sky Weekly Honors

FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. (January 22, 2024) – The NAU track & field team had three athletes earn Big Sky weekly honors following a historic night at the Skydome during the Lumberjack Team Challenge over the weekend.
 
Nico Young was named Big Sky Men's Track Athlete of the Week following his impressive performance in the mile. He ran the first the first sub-4 minute mile at 7,000 feet in collegiate history. His time of 3:57.33 easily won him the event and is the top time in the NCAA so far this season when adjusted for altitude.
 
Madeline Wilson was named Big Sky Women's Track Athlete of the Week for the second consecutive week after breaking her own school and conference record in the 200-meter. Her time of 23.29 puts her at seventh in the nation in the event when adjusted for altitude.
 
Desmond Lott was named Big Sky Men's Field Athlete of the Week after winning both the weight throw and the shot put over the weekend. He threw 20.16 meters in the weight throw and 16.44 meters in the shot put to easily take both event wins. Lott is ranked second in the conference in the weight throw and sixth in the conference in the shot put.
 
The Lumberjacks are on the road this week as they travel to Boston, Mass. for the John Thomas Terrier Classic and Albuquerque, N.M for the New Mexico Team Open.
