Women’s Basketball Welcomes Faith Curry

FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. (Jan. 22, 2024) – Northern Arizona University head women's basketball coach Loree Payne has announced another addition to the 2024 signing class in Faith Curry. Curry will join the Lumberjacks in the Fall as a true freshman, coming to Flagstaff from Bakersfield, Calif., where she currently attends Liberty High School.

A 6-0 guard/forward, Curry is a team captain and recently received a California McDonald's All-American game nomination. As a senior, she was selected to attend the first NCAA College Pathway Basketball Academy and averaged 20 points and 10 rebounds per game at the Section 7 Tournament. She is also on her way to eclipsing the 1,000-career point mark.

"Faith is a huge addition to our Lumberjack program. She is a very skilled player who was heavily recruited. She can play any position on the court and has a very high basketball IQ," said head coach Loree Payne. "We are excited to see her impact on our program next season."

Curry began her career at Bakersfield High School where she averaged 12.5 points and 6.6 rebounds per game as a sophomore. She garnered several accolades during her sophomore season including Cal Hi-Sports second team All-State, SB Live second team All-State, SB Live All-Central Section first team, Bakersfield All-Area first team, and South Yosemite League first team. She was also one of five athletes voted to the Kern High Network Outstanding Players, voted on by coaches across the Kern High School district.

Once transferring to Liberty High School, Curry was named team captain and improved to 15 points, six rebounds and three assists per game as a junior, shooting 40 percent from three-point range. Curry continued to rake in honors at Liberty, being named to the All-ESPN second team, Bakersfield Varsity All-Area first team, South Yosemite League first team, and Cal Hi-Sports All-State.

Curry guided her squad to a South Yosemite League championship in 2022-23 and its first Valley Championship title in program history. In the Valley Championship game, she scored 18 points and added 12 rebounds and was named MVP. In the CIF state playoff game, Curry hit a buzzer beater to win the game and help her team advance to the playoffs.

Curry joins fellow incoming freshman Rylee Lemen, a 5-11 forward from Gladstone, Ore.
