FARMINGTON, Utah (Jan. 23, 2024) – After nearly averaging a double-double and guiding the squad to two road victories, Northern Arizona University women's basketball player,
Sophie Glancey, has been named the Big Sky Conference Player of the Week.
Glancey shares the award with Eastern Washington's Jamie Loera. It is the first award of her career and the second for NAU this season, as
Grace Beasley earned the honor on Dec. 19.
On the week, Glancey averaged 20.0 points, 9.5 rebounds, 2.5 blocks, 1.5 assists and 1.0 steals per game in victories at Portland State and Sacramento State. She shot 48.1 percent (13-27) from the field, 81.3 percent (13-16) from the free throw line, and was a perfect 1-for-1 from three-point range while averaging 27.3 minutes per game in the two contests. She also did not commit any turnovers.
Against Portland State, the sophomore scored 16 points and added six rebounds and two blocks, making 8-of-10 from the free throw line in the win. She followed up with her third double-double of the season at Sacramento State, coming two points shy of a career-high with 24 points and tying her career-highs in rebounds (13) and blocks (3). She was also 9-for-15 from the field and dished two assists.
Glancey has been consistent all season, currently ranking second in the Big Sky and 74
th nationally in field goal percentage, making 51.1 percent (95-186) from the field. She leads the team in both points per game (13.2) and rebounds per game (6.7) while adding 1.2 blocks per contest. The Boise, Idaho, native ranks seventh in the conference in scoring, eighth in total rebounds, fourth in offensive rebounds, and third in blocks.
Glancey ups her averages to 16.0 points and 7.6 rebounds per game in conference play. She has scored in double figures in 13 out of 18 games with nine in three others. Glancey's career-high 26 points came in a victory over Youngstown State, and she has tied her career-high 13 rebounds twice, adding 10 and 11 rebounds in two other contests.
Glancey and the Lumberjacks are gearing up to host Idaho and Eastern Washington at Findlay Toyota Court this week. NAU is 12-6 (4-1) on the year and will host the Vandals on Jan. 25 at 6 p.m. Mountain Standard time before a Big Sky semifinal rematch with the Eagles on Jan. 27 at 2 p.m. MST.
