FARMINGTON, Utah (Jan. 30, 2024) – For the second-straight week, Northern Arizona University women's basketball player
Sophie Glancey has been named the Big Sky Conference Player of the Week as announced by the league office this afternoon.
It's the second career award for Glancey in as many weeks, and the third honor for NAU this season as
Grace Beasley claimed the award on Dec. 19. For the first time this season, the Lumberjacks also earned the award outright.
The sophomore earned the honor after guiding Northern Arizona to home victories, topping Idaho 65-53 before snapping EWU's 10-game winning streak with an 89-81 overtime win, propelling the Lumberjacks to the top of the conference standings at 14-6 overall and 6-1 in Big Sky play.
Glancey scored 23 points and grabbed nine rebounds in both games and has scored over 20 points in three-straight contests leading into this week.
Against Idaho, she was 10-of-12 from the field and 3-for-3 from the free throw line, adding a block and a steal. Against Eastern Washington, she set a new career-high with three assists and made 8-of-17 from the field, 1-of-2 from three-point range, and 6-of-6 from the charity stripe. She also added two steals and two blocks.
The Boise, Idaho, native was instrumental during the overtime period against Eastern Washington. She scored six of the team's 16 points on 3-of-4 from the field, dished two assists, blocked two shots, and grabbed three rebounds in five minutes to secure the victory.
On the week, Glancey shot 62.1 percent (18-29) from the field, was 1-of-2 from behind the arc and was a perfect 9-for-9 at the free throw line, now making 14 straight. In addition to averaging 23.0 points and 9.0 rebounds per game, she averaged 1.5 assists, blocks, and steals per contest.
Glancey has played in and started all 20 games this season, averaging 25.0 minutes per game. She ranks fifth in the Big Sky in scoring with 14.2 points per game and sixth with 7.0 rebounds per contest. Glancey is the conference's leader in blocked shots (24) and field goal percentage, draining 52.6 percent (113-215) from the field.
In conference only contests, Glancey ranks second in scoring (18.0) and rebounding (8.0), while leading the league in offensive rebounds per game (2.7), and blocked shots (1.4) while continuing to pace the league with a 52.2 percent field goal percentage.
Glancey has scored in double figures 15 times this season, including five-straight with four 20-plus point performances to her name.
The Lumberjacks are currently on the road for four-straight games, beginning with a contest at Weber State (Feb. 1) and Idaho State (Feb. 3).
