FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. (October 16, 2024) -- The NAU Men's tennis team is headed to Las Vegas, Nevada to participate in the ITA regional championship. Six of the nine Lumberjacks will be competing in the tournament with sophomore
Semen Agynskyy, junior
Takumi Katsuda, freshman
Kai Mills, sophomore
Jakub Prachar, senior
Dani Torres, and freshman
Jakub Volesky.
All six of the Lumberjacks will be competing in both the singles and doubles brackets. The ITA Regional Championships begin on Oct. 17 and will continue through Oct. 22.
Agynskyy has had a strong start to the fall season with a 4-2 record in singles during the two tournaments that he has played in, The Bedford Cup and the Wildcat Invite.
Katsuda found success at the Bedford Cup when he made it to the finals of his bracket. Unfortunately, he fell in the final in straight sets, not without putting up a fight, dropping 7-6(9), 6-3.
Mills has played in just one tournament this season where he picked up two wins at the Wildcat Invite in Tucson, Arizona. Mills recorded his first collegiate singles win at the tournament.
Torres is coming off being the lone Lumberjack to participate at the ITA All-American Championships. Torres had only had two matches in which both had him lose against two players from Baylor. However, it is a major accomplishment to compete in the All-American Championships because that signifies that he is one of the top collegiate players in the country.
Prachar has played in the Wildcat Invite and the Bedford Cup. Prachar is 4-2 in singles and 4-2 in doubles.Volesky got to the semi-finals of the Bedford Cup, coming away with a straight sets victory on the way to the Semis as well, 6-4, 6-3.
