FARMINGTON, Utah (Nov. 12, 2024) – Already backing up her Big Sky Conference Preseason MVP nod, Northern Arizona women's basketball player
Sophie Glancey has earned the league's first Big Sky Player of the Week award of the season as announced by the conference office this morning.
It's the junior's fourth career weekly honor after claiming it on three different occasions in 2023-24.
Glancey helped the Lumberjacks start the season 2-1 for the first time since the 2020-21 season. In the opener at New Mexico, she hit the game-winning shot after NAU trailed by as many as 13, guiding the Lumberjacks to their first win at The Pit since 1994-95, snapping a nine-game losing streak to the Lobos.
Against UNM, she scored 17 points on 7-of-15 from the field to go with eight rebounds and two blocks.
Although the Lumberjacks fell to UNLV, Glancey was instrumental once again and earned her first double-double of the season in just 24 minutes of play, adding 18 points on 8-of-12 from the field and 10 rebounds while dishing three assists.
In the home opener against Fort Lewis, Glancey turned in her second consecutive double-double and the ninth of her career with 10 points and 10 rebounds in just 20 minutes. She was 4-of-6 from the field with two assists and a block.
On the week, she earned two double-doubles and averaged 15.0 points (45 total) and 9.3 rebounds (28 total) over three games. The Boise, Idaho, native shot 57.6 percent (19-33) from the field while adding 1.7 assists and 1.0 blocks per game.
She is currently tied for second in the league in scoring along with teammate
Nyah Moran with 15.0 points per game and is third in rebounding with 9.3 per contest so far this year. She is also second in field goal percentage and fourth in blocks.
Glancey was named the Preseason Big Sky MVP after earning a unanimous spot on the first team last year. In 2023-24, she started and played in all 35 games and averaged 15.7 points per contest, scoring 550 total points which ranks second in single-season history at NAU. Glancey led the Big Sky in field goal percentage, draining 53.4 percent (221-414) from the field which ranks eighth in single-season season history.
She scored in double figures 28 times, scoring over 20 points in 11 games and tying her career-high 30 points on three different occasions. Outside of the scoring column, Glancey led the team with 7.3 rebounds per game and her 257 total boards is third in NAU single-season history. She had six double-doubles on the year, three of which came consecutively. Additionally, she needs just 136 more points to reach 1,000 in her career.
NAU heads back out on the road to face West Coast Conference foe Pacific in Stockton, Calif., on Sunday, Nov. 17. Tipoff is set for 3 p.m. Mountain Standard time. The Lumberjacks went a perfect 4-0 against the WCC last season including a 96-65 victory over the Tigers.
