LAS VEGAS, Nev. (February 10, 2023) – The Lumberjacks moved to 4-4 over a two-day span in Las Vegas on Friday and Saturday, taking down UNLV in a 6-1 match and falling 4-0 to LMU.
For the second consecutive season, the Jacks took down UNLV on their home courts, this time in 6-1 fashion as NAU earned the doubles point and five singles victories on Friday afternoon.
Dominik Buzonics and
Semen Agynskyy paired up at the No. 3, earning the Jacks first doubles win of the day in a quick 6-1 match over UNLV's Aaron Bailey and Thomas Navarro.
Piotr Galus and
Maikel De Boes secured the point at the No. 2, knocking the Rebels duo of Illia Maksymchuk and Taiyo Hirano, 6-4.
On the singles side of things,
Maciej Ziomber earned the second point for NAU with a 6-1, 6-3 victory over Creed Skinner. Agynskyy would close out his match next at the No. 5 against Martin Jovenin, 6-2, 6-4. At the No. 3, De Boes picked up a comeback win to Maksymchuk, to put the Jacks up 4-0 with a 3-6, 6-3, 6-2 victory. Buzonics, playing at the No. 2, grabbed the 5-0 lead, defeating Dusan Rsovac 6-4, 4-6, 6-1. For the final singles victory of the day, Galus earned a comeback victory at the No. 4 against UNLV's Bailey, 1-6, 6-3, 6-3.
Looking to grab the back-to-back wins on the road, the Jacks suffered a slow start to doubles play, trickling down to the singles courts against the LMU Lions.
The Jacks dropped the No. 1 and No. 2 doubles courts with Torres and Ziomber falling 6-3 followed by De Boes and Galus dropping 6-2 to give the Lions their first point of the match.
On the singles courts, NAU dropped courts 2, 3, and 4 for LMU to claim victory. At the No. 2, Buzonics dropped 6-4, 6-3. At the No. 3 Galus fell 6-1, 6-2, and at the No. 3 De Boes lost in a 6-2, 6-3 match. Torres at the No. 1 went unfinished at 0-6, 6-5 while in the midst of a comeback. Agynskyy was up at No. 5 6-2, 5-4, and Ziomber was up at the No. 6, 6-0, 3-6, 1-0.
