FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. (March 1, 2024) – Coming off a two-win weekend in Colorado, the Jacks will return home for the first time in 45 days, as NAU Tennis is set to host the Portland State Vikings on Sunday at 10 a.m. MST.
Dani Torres went 3-1 on the weekend while improving the Lumberjacks record to 6-4 as a team, along with his singles record to 5-2, picking up wins to Abilene Christian and the Air Force Academy. Torres moved up to the No. 1 position this weekend, grabbing his first victory of the season at the No. 1 against ACU's Daniel Morozov in a 6-4, 7-5 match.
Torres brought in another singles victory in straight sets to Air Force's Phillip Deaton in 6-4, 7-6 (7-4) fashion. Torres also recorded a doubles victory to the ACU Wildcats, securing the doubles point for NAU, with partner
Maciej Ziomber as they topped Benjamin McDonald and Ethan Scribner in a 6-4 victory at the No. 2 slot.
Jakub Prachar has won the last four matches, two at the No. 5 and two at the No. 6, to hold the longest win streak in singles play through the season. As a team, the Lumberjacks hold an overall singles record of 33-14 while marking 15-10 in doubles play so far.
Portland State has tabbed a 1-1 start to conference play after a 5-2 loss to the Montana State Bobcats and a 7-0 victory to the Eastern Washington Eagles. PSU's non-conference wins come to Seattle (4-3), Pacific (OR) (7-0), and George Fox (7-0), while suffering losses to Washington (6-1), Portland (5-2), and Oregon (4-0).
Luka Jovanovic leads the Vikings in overall singles play with a 5-1 record, with victories at the No. 2, No. 3, No. 5, and No. 6 positions. Andrea Brignacca holds an undefeated 2-0 record at the No. 1 slot, while Jan Semerak has gone 2-4 at the No. 1 himself.
As a team, the Vikings are 26-20 to start the season in overall singles, while 11-8 in overall doubles play. The Vikings pairing of Jovanovic and Hubert Theriault are 4-0, with a win at the No. 2 and three wins at the No. 3.
