SACRAMENTO, Calif. (March 15, 2024) – The Lumberjacks Men's Tennis (9-5, 2-0) squad split a pair of matches this week in California for the annual Spring Break trip to the sunshine state, falling in a close 5-2 match to the UC Davis Aggies and then returning to action for the Jacks second Big Sky Conference victory this season with a 4-3 win over the Sacramento State Hornets on Friday afternoon.

Against the Aggies, NAU dropped a crucial doubles point as Dani Torres and Maciej Ziomber fell in a 6-3 match at the No. 2 slot, followed by Maikel De Boes and Semen Agynskyy dropping 6-4 at the No. 3. Dominik Buzonics and Jakub Prachar grabbed the lone doubles victory at the No. 1 position, handing Aggies pairing Max Fardanesh and Lucas Bollinger a 6-3 loss.

In singles play, Torres looked for revenge, finding victory to Ryan Torres at the No. 1 in back-to-back sets at 6-2, 6-3 to give the Jacks a point. Torres' win over UC Davis' Torres marked a nationally ranked victory for the Junior as his opponent was ranked 114 in the ITA's latest individual rankings. Agynskyy would grab NAU's second point of the match in three sets, knocking Bollinger in a 6-2, 5-7, 7-5 final. Buzonics dropped at the No. 2, De Boes at the No. 3, Galus at the No. 4, and Ziomber at the No. 6. The Jacks fell 5-2 to the Aggies overall.

With eyes set on jumping back in the win column to close out the week, NAU faced the Hornets for a Friday afternoon match, where Sacramento State would put up a battle to the Jacks for NAU's 4-3 victory over the Big Sky foe.

Ziomber and Torres picked a convincing 6-0 win at the No. 2, quickly giving the Jacks momentum as Agynskyy and De Boes would pick up a 6-4 win at the No. 3 to secure the doubles point for NAU. Buzonics and Prachar once again paired up at the No. 1, with the match sitting at 5-5, going unfinished to move on to singles play.

Torres grabbed yet another singles victory, this time in the No. 2 slot with a 6-4, 6-0 victory, continuing off of his early doubles success. De Boes tabbed back-to-back 6-4 sets at the No. 3 for NAU's third point and Ziomber moved up to the No. 5, securing NAU's victory in three sets with a comeback 3-6, 7-5, 6-4 victory.
