FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. (April 11, 2024) – Northern Arizona Men's Tennis is heading back on the road, this time marking the final road trip of the regular season as the Jacks will take on Montana State on Friday morning and Montana on Sunday morning.
Coming off two victories in Flagstaff last week, NAU will look to extend its win-streak ahead of returning home for Senior Day and a 2023 Big Sky Championship 'rematch' with the Idaho Vandals next Saturday, April 20. NAU remains a perfect 7-0 at home this season, picking up a 7-0 sweep over the Eastern Washington Eagles and a 5-2 victory over the Idaho State Bengals.
The wins led
Dani Torres to his first-career Big Sky Player of the Week honors, as the junior went 4-0 in all of his matches while clinching the doubles point with partner
Maciej Bogusz in a crucial matchup with the Bengals on Saturday. Torres holds an overall singles record of 11-3 and an overall doubles record of 12-5.
Maikel De Boes has gone 5-0 in Big Sky matches while on a six-match win streak with a 10-2 record at the No. 3 position.
The MSU Bobcats are coming off a 4-3 loss to the Weber State Wildcats. With a 3-3 start to Big Sky play, the Cats are led by Dario Ciobotaru who holds an overall singles record of 9-8. The duo of Andras Necz and Max Relic lead the team with an overall record of 6-4 at the No. 1 position.
The Griz are heading into the weekend with a 3-2 record while coming off back-to-back 5-2 victories over Idaho State and Weber State. Tom Bittner leads Montana with a 13-2 record while remaining undefeated at the No. 3. Bittner and Chris Zhang hold a 7-5 record together on the doubles courts, primarily playing in the No. 2 slot.
