TUCSON, Ariz. (April 27, 2024) – The NAU track & field team concluded their regular season competition at the Desert Heat Classic, highlighted by a school and conference record in the men's 800-meter.
Colin Sahlman set an NAU and Big Sky record in the 800-meter after running a time of 1:45.63.
Nico Young placed third in the event after running a time of 1:47.65, the third-fastest time in school history.
Odessa Zentz finished 16
th in the women's 800-meter with a time of 2:13.00.
Kang Nyoak took the event win in the men's 1,500-meter after running a time of 3:46.02.
Ford Washburn and
Cael Grotenhuis placed seventh and ninth, respectively, running personal best times of 3:49.90 and 3:50.77.
Terrence Keyes finished 10
th with a time of 3:51.35, while
Riley Human placed 15
th with a time of 3:58.76.
Nyoak also took the event win in the 3,00-meter after running a time of 8:12.57. Grotenhuis finished fourth with a personal best time of 8:16.23, with Washburn right behind in fifth with a time of 8:20.53. Keyes placed sixth after running a time of 8:22.12.
Anna Fenske was the top NAU finisher in the women's 1,500-meter, placing seventh with a personal best time of 4:31.07.
Hayley Burns placed ninth in the event with a personal best time of 4:34.24, while
Skyler Wallace finished 18
th with a time of 4:49.87.
Fenske placed third in the 3,000-meter after running a time of 10:03.52, with Burns close behind in fifth with a time of 10:10.75. Wallace finished eighth in the event, running a time of 10:30.59.
Kyairra Reigh placed 16
th in the 200-meter after running a time of 23.81.
LiNay Perry finished 27
th with a time of 24.28.
Kyle Smith finished 14
th in the men's 200-meter after running a time of 21.17.
Ian Lipsey and
Khamis Hassan placed 28
th and 30
th, respectively, running personal best times of 21.62 and 21.65.
Joshua Anderson finished 40
th with a time of 22.08.
Tyson Givens placed 17
th in the 110-meter hurdles after running a time of 14.64 with
Zachary Taylor close behind in 20
th with a personal best time of 15.06.
The men's 4x100-meter relay placed 11
th with the squad running a time of 39.95. The men's 4x400-meter also finished 11
th, running a time of 3:17.04.
Joshua Anderson and
Sirr Butler placed 34
th and 35
th in the 400-meter, with Anderson running a time of 48.86 while Butler ran a time of 49.14.
Jackson Glamann also competed, finishing 40
th with a personal best time of 50.11.
Haley Posey was the lone NAU competitor in the women's 100-meter, finishing 58
th with a personal best time of 12.70.
Janelle Sanchez finished 26
th in the 400-meter hurdles after running a personal best time of 1:02.73.
In the men's 400-meter hurdles,
Cannon Booker placed 18
th with a personal best time of 54.20.
Ethan Seppala and
Tyson Givens placed 19
th and 20
th, respectively, running times of 54.24 and 54.38.
Zachary Taylor also competed, placing 22
nd with a time of 57.18.
Mitchell Effing was the top Lumberjack finisher in the men's 100-meter, placing 33
rd with a personal best time of 10.62.
Kyle Smith and
Khamis Hassan finished 35

th, respectively, each running times of 10.65.
Effing also competed in the long jump, placing second with a mark of 7.64 meters.
Ian Lipsey placed 13
th in the event with a mark of 7.07 meters, while
Christian Mutengela finished 24
th with a mark of 4.75 meters.
Kenashalee Kerr placed sixth in the triple jump with a personal best mark of 12.66 meters, putting her third on NAU's all-time performance list.
Sariyah Horne-Kemp placed fifth in the hammer throw with a mark of 59.07 meters. Horne-Kemp also placed fifth in the discus, throwing a personal best of 50.13 meters. Tañia Duncan also competed in the hammer throw, placing 24
th with a personal best mark of 45.23 meters.
In the men's hammer throw
Garret Bernt placed fifth with a personal best mark of 65.02 meters, putting him at fourth on NAU's all-time performance list in the event.
Parker Bays finished ninth with a personal best mark of 61.73 meters, while
Cole White placed 14
th with a mark of 52.00 meters.
Bernt finished eighth in the discus, earning his second PR of the night with a throw of 54.03 meters and moving to eighth on NAU's all-time performance list in the event.
Drayden Allen and
Trystan Gillis finished 17
th and 22
nd in the event, with Allen throwing a personal best 46.21 meters and Gillis throwing 42.30 meters.
Bays placed third in the shot put with a personal best mark of 18.30 meters. His mark puts him seventh on NAU's all-time performance list in the event.
Jake Tucker finished 11
th in the event with a mark of 16.01 meters, while
Drayden Allen placed 20
th with a mark of 14.01 meters.
Alaina Diggs competed in the shot put, placing ninth with a mark of 14.85 meters.
Piper Pfister placed eighth in the javelin throw with a mark of 43.49 meters, while
Emilia Betlej with a personal best mark of 39.34 meters.
In the men's javelin throw,
Clay Carbajal placed eighth with a mark of 61.42 meters.
Clayton Zupke finished 14
th with a mark of 55.55 meters, while
Karim Grissett placed 19
th with a mark of 51.25 meters.
