LAS VEGAS, Nev. (April 5, 2024) – The NAU track & field team began their weekend road trip with a solid day of competition at the UNLV Rebels Elite.
Garret Bernt and
Parker Bays swept the top-2 spots in the hammer throw, with Bernt throwing 60.70 meters and earning the event win. Bays took second after throwing 55.51 meters.
Bernt also competed in the discus, placing third with a season-best mark of 51.59 meters.
Trystan Gillis and
Drayden Allen placd ninth and 10
th in the event. Gillis threw a personal best 45.77 meters while Allen threw 42.96 meters.
Sariyah Horne-Kemp placed fifth in the women's discus throw after hitting a mark of 45.61 meters. Tañia Duncan finished seventh after throwing 41.90 meters.
Horne-Kemp finished second in the hammer throw with a mark of 56.67 meters.
Alaina Diggs placed fourth after throwing 47.61 meters, while Duncan placed eighth with a mark of 41.87 meters.
Mitchell Effing took the event win in the long jump after jumping a wind-aided 7.76 meters.
Ian Lipsey placed fifth in the event with a wind-aided mark of 6.96 meters.
Sirr Butler and
Christian Mutengela finished seventh and eighth, respectively, with marks of 6.21 meters and 4.56 meters.
In the women's long jump,
Brenna Rodriguez placed second after jumping a wind-aided 5.62 meters.
Kenashalee Kerr finished fifth with a wind-aided mark of 5.43 meters.
