Deniah Wells Earns First Big Sky Player of the Week Honors

FARMINGTON, Utah (August 20, 2024) – Lumberjack forward Deniah Wells has had quite the week after returning to the pitch for the first time since the 2022 season after a season-ending knee injury benched her in her first season with NAU.

You wouldn't have guessed that it had been 659 days since Wells took the pitch in an official match, as the Corona, Calif. Native checked into the match in the 23rd minute, quickly shifting momentum in favor of the Jacks.

Avery Ott found Wells inside the box to initialize the 82nd-minute equalizer as the Jacks took advantage of ASU's keeper creeping off her line as Wells snuck in her first-career goal with the Lumberjacks. Scoring NAU's lone goal of the match, Wells snapped a 22-year losing streak to in-state rival Arizona State.

The Lumberjacks will take on the Arizona Wildcats in Tucson this Thursday night at 7 p.m. MST. To stay up to date with NAU Soccer, follow the Jacks on X, Twitter, and Facebook.
